Had my 36 week appointment today at 1:45. Keith and I were so excited to get to see Vince again and find out how everything was going and how much he weighed. We were going to talk about labor with Dr. B and do an internal check to see how I was coming along. Isn't it funny how things just don't work out the way you want them to? How you can go from being in a great mood and super excited to being in a terrible mood and pissed?
First of all, I'm not naive. I know that sometimes when we go to the doctor we have to wait. That's just a part of it. I get it. I get that we had to sit in the waiting room for an hour and a half even though there were 2 other people there with us. We were getting antsy, but not too bad. I get that things happen that are out of ours or the doctor's control. What I don't get is why we had to wait for over an hour in the little room (after we had waited an hour and a half in the waiting room) for someone to tell us that Dr. B got called to the hospital and had to leave and that we would have to see the nurse practicioner. All the while, I'm sitting on the exam table with my pants off and a crappy thin paper sheet over me, feeling super uncomfortable. Do you know how hard it is on a 9 month pregnant womans back to sit for a long period or even lie on those stupid exam tables? What really gets me is that we wouldn't have known this if Keith hadn't opened the door an hour into the wait to see what was going on. No one even had the decency to come and tell us what was going on! She was like, "Oh yeah, Dr. B got called out and you will have to see the nurse practicioner." I like the nurse practicioner. Alot. Didn't have a problem with this at all. I had heard Dr. B's pager go off like 45 min before this and didn't really think anything of it. Then once she said that, I got pissed. It's not like they were busy! There were two other people there (who came in after us but got seen before us) so it wasn't like the nurse who was sitting at her little desk eating something couldn't have come and told us this earlier. &^%$#@! That's what I wanted to say. But, having been raised the right way I guess, we didn't really say anything to anyone except we have been here since 1:45 and it is now 4:30. So, when do you think she will see us? We had to open the door twice and ask this by the way. She then put a note on our door saying NEXT so we wouldn't get skipped. At 5:00, the nurse practicioner came in and apologized to us and then we went on with our business.
So, I asked about the ultrasound...since I thought we were supposed to get one that day. We have one scheduled for Monday at 2:15 so I will have to post about Vince then. His heart rate was good and he's been moving alot. She did an internal exam to check my cervix. Still closed tight but she did say that I was about 50% effaced. The one exciting thing we did talk about was labor. I asked about induction or if they just wait until things happen on their own. She did say Dr. B does induce at 39 weeks if the mom wants to. Hmmm...let me think....uhhh yeahhhhh!! She will induce only if things are starting to happen on their own anyway. So if nothing is going on by 39 weeks, I'm pretty much stuck until my due date. :) Let's please all pray that SOMETHING...ANYTHING...is going on by 39 weeks. If it all works out the way I want...which let's be honest with ourselves...it probably won't...Vince will be here sometime around June 7th or 8th. Not sure what day she induces on.
Ok, now that I have all of that off my chest, I feel MUCH better! I still love the doctor's and nurses at my office, but we did NOT have a good day today. I did lose 2 pounds though, which is pretty awesome considering I've gained quite a bit of weight. It was really great to see the numbers go down instead of up like they normally do. I've had a lot less swelling since I got to rest so much the last 4 or 5 days so that's probably why. Sorry you all had to hear me rant and rave. Talk to you soon.
Jen
Well, I guess it's better than having to leave and not seeing anyone.
ReplyDeleteI know. Just had to get the frustrating parts out before I exploded! :)
ReplyDeleteJill and I satin the doctors office yesterday for almost an hour and a half. I was starting to think they had forgotten about us too so I know what you mean. I bet Jill that Vince would be here by the 24th of May so you need to get hopping! :)
