I will start with Maddox. He will be 10 months on Monday. He is growing like a weed and weighs 20 something pounds. Yes, I can't remember the exact weight. :) I do remember that he is in the 56th percentile for weight though. Which means he is heavier than 56 percent of babies his age. He is only in the 18th percentile for height. Sorry Mad Pad. I think you are going to be short and stocky. I could be wrong, but that's what it's looking like so far.
A little about what you're doing right now:
- crawl and pull up (all over the place and you only want to be in places you aren't supposed to be)
- give me 5 ( I put my hand out and say give me 5 and you touch my hand and giggle and giggle)
- say mama and dada and a bunch of other babble that I don't know
- giggle and laugh at your brother
- eat regular food if it's smushed up (you will eat just about anything, unlike a certain boy named Vince)
- you still eat baby food too and you love little baby cheetos, wagon wheels, and puffs
- wave bye bye
- eat shoes (there could be all the toys in the world in front of you and you go straight for the shoes) GROSS!
- grunt yourself to sleep( when we are in the car or when you are super tired, you make noises until you fall alseep) so cute
- patty cake and papas y papas (with Mommy Carmen)
- sleep in your crib (but most nights you wake up and end up in our bed, just like your brother)
- has 5 teeth already (one of the front ones has a little hole in it! We don't know what that's all about but we will be seeing the dentist already sometime this week)
- you do not sleep all night long ( we are dying here)
- want to be just like your brother (we are scared)
I stopped pumping breast milk about a month ago. He took to formula just fine but has been constipated a couple of times. Not fun. For him or us. Poor baby just cries and cries and you can tell he is in pain. We have been giving him prunes and pear juice. That seems to work ok. And we finally found a formula that works for him. Only two more months of formula and then I don't know what. He seems to have a small lactose issue. When I first started breast feeding, I had to give up all dairy because it was killing his tummy. I started adding it back in around 6 months and he seemed to tolerate it pretty well. When I stopped pumping, I went crazy and now I am paying for it. My tummy does NOT like dairy. Which sucks because my mouth does. :) We will either start him on organic milk or we will try goat's milk if that kills his tummy.
I can't believe he is almost 1 already. I'm pretty sure we will have his birthday party after Christmas. Within the first two weeks of January. His birthday is December 21st and I think it will just be too hard for people to come then. Plus, I don't want his birthday and Christmas to be combined. I don't think that's fair and he won't like it when he's older. This way, hopefully more people will be able to come to his party. We will of course have him a mini birthday party at home with us and just wait for the big party. We are doing a little monster theme. He is going to be Mike from Monster's University for Halloween. It's funny because Vince was an owl for his first Halloween and he had an owl themed first birthday party. My classroom this year is monster themed and I just think they are so cute.
Vincent James Duncan is 3 and almost a half. We are still in the throes of potty training. Sometimes it goes really well and sometimes if t feels like we are never going to get there. He did go poo and pee in the bathroom at the mall yesterday so that was awesome. His diaper stayed mostly dry throughout the day as well. Part of the problem lies with us. I notice the more we take him to the bathroom, the better he does. (DUH!) It's just remembering on our part and taking the time to do it. We will get there eventually. Maybe. I'm praying about it.
This child has the weirdest eating habits. At times he will eat what we offer (very rarely) and other times he wants some pretty wild combinations. First of all, the boy could live off popcorn. We don't buy the pre made bags anymore. We just buy the kernels and put them in a paper bag and pop them in the microwave. So at least there is not any gross chemically butter stuff on it. We just salt it a little. He has to have popcorn at least once a day. He loves veggies! We were having Chicken Express the other day and I asked him if he wanted some french fries, chicken, or okra. No, he didn't want any of that. He wanted spinach. What?? This can't be my child. So I gave him a big ol bowl of raw spinach and he went to town on it. And got seconds. I guess he likes the taste of dirt because that's what raw spinach tastes like to me without any dressing on it. Then another day he wanted cucumber. So we chopped up a cucumber together (he likes to stand on the steps while I cook) and then he wanted some zucchini, tomatoes, carrots, and lettuce. That's what he ate for dinner. I think he's part rabbit. But them some days he won't eat anything good and just wants barbecue chips and crap like that. Or cake pops from Starbucks for breakfast. Which I only let him have every once in awhile. :) No judging. On top of all that, he won't try anything new. He won't try a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, macaroni and cheese, corn dogs, or any other normal kid fare. It drives me crazy sometimes but at least he loves his veggies. Broccoli, carrots, green peppers, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini. The funny thing, is that he will try whatever new veggie I ask him to try. Just not regular food. Oh well. Could be worse.
A little about what you are doing right now:
- You like to talk...all the time...never stopping...even for a second...especially when you are supposed to be quiet...like during prayers...or when Maddox is sleeping (Granny says I talked all the time too and you are just getting me back. Thanks a lot.)
- You love to sing (You're favorites right now are "Love Somebody" by Paroon Five :), "Not Over You" Gavin Degraw, "Roar" and "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry, "I'm Singing" and "Come and Find Peace" by Kari Jobe. You still love "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen, and "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me. You love singing Bible songs as well. Your most favorite is "Rise and Shine"
- You are very organized and most of the time you like to put your toys away. They all have their own home and like toys are grouped together. All of your tools go in one basket, trains in another, and so forth.
- We still have to put you to bed. You say, "Mommy, you need to sleep with me." And I do. Because one day you will not want me to sleep with you so I figure I better soak it in now. Some days I don't mind at all. Others I wish you would just put your own self to bed. :)
- You are very sensitive right now and cry at the drop of a hat. Fake cry and real cry. Drives me and Daddy crazy!
- You love to whine.
- You love to give mommy and daddy kisses and tell us you love us. Especially when you are getting in trouble. :)
- You really love your little brother. Sometimes you get jealous of him and try to get out attention too but for the most part, you are sweet and loving and you are always asking about Maddox. When he cries, you go over to him and tell him, "It's ok Maddox." You bring him toys and try to make him laugh. You never try to hurt him. I love watching you two together.
- You never meet a stranger and you always want someone to play with you. We will be out in public and you say, "Mommy, who's that?" right in front of someone. I always tell you to ask them. Not me. When you see kids, especially at playgrounds, you go right up to them and ask them to play. Some kids love that but I can tell that you startle others sometimes. You are the complete opposite of me. I was always super shy.
- You love to go to church and always ask about it. Which makes my heart happy. That is the one thing that I want for you in life. To have a relationship with Jesus and love God with all of your heart. You will surely make lots of mistakes in your life, but if you have Jesus there to cling to, you will always get back on the right path.
That's enough for now. I will leave you with some pictures to cover the last 4 months. I would say I will try to get better at this blogging stuff. But I know I won't. I'll just stop by every couple of months or so and give an update with some pictures. That seems to work best for me.
Daddy and I love you both more than we can ever express. You are both growing up so fast. I will try to be present in all of your moments of drive mommy and daddy craziness.
Love
Mommy and Daddy
