So I've been having those Braxton Hicks contractions off and on all weekend and debated on whether I should call the doctor or not. I had cramping along with the contractions and I felt a bunch of pressure down below. I decided not to because I already had an appointment for Tuesday so I just rested all weekend. Yesterday I got to the doctor and told her how I'd been feeling and proceeded to get in trouble for not calling her. Not trouble really but she told me not to do that again. It's just that I'm already a hypochondriac and I overreact about everything so I felt like I was being ridiculous. The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks earlier and everything turned out ok so I just thought that was what was going on again. The nurse practitioner sent me to Maternal Observation at Harris and I was fine and I didn't really want to sit through that again. Anyway, she checked my cervix and it was closed up tight and then she did a test on me that can tell them what my chances are of going into labor in the next two weeks. They hooked me up to the machine that monitors baby's heartbeat and contractions. I had a few sporadic contractions while at the office but since my cervix was fine, she sent me home. Keith and I went and ate and before I even got home, I started to feel the contractions again but this time stronger and way closer together. Doctor Bradford told me that if I got home and was having 6-8 contractions in an hour, even if they didn't hurt, that I needed to go get checked out at the hospital. :( I had 8 in one hour but still didn't know if I should go or not. I finally called and she told me that I needed to go in. FUN!! So we get there and they hook me up to the monitor and I'm defintely having quite a few contractions. They don't hurt much, just pressure at this point. The nurse checked my cervix again and said it was def. closed up tight. She then told me that sometimes after being checked out by the doctor, that the cervix can be extra sensitive and cause contractions to start. They gave me a lovely shot that made me all jittery but it did make the contractions stop. We sat there for another 30 minutes and then got to go home. She told me to call my doctor tomorrow about the results of the test that can tell whether I'm going to go into labor soon or not and that they would give me instructions from there. The test came back negative so everything is still good and he gets to bake for longer. I don't want him out before he's done! All in all a fun day! :) The plus side is that now I don't have to take a tour of labor and delivery because we've already been there and done that. :) Another plus was that I got to hear Vince's little heartbeat for a long time. I feel him moving all the time but there is something so reassuring about hearing his heart beating.
I go back to the doctor in two weeks so I'll update more then. I'll post a belly pic too. Not much has changed since the last one...still huge. :)

I'm glad he's decided to bake a bit longer - he needs it. Glad all is good. Can't wait for your shower this weekend. I think you'll actually be in labor longer than I was. I'm not sure I know anyone that has been in labor for two months! Lucky you. Love you!
ReplyDeleteI had one of those fun visits with Jolie at about 20 weeks and I too got to see L&D before the BIG day which made that day a little less stressful :) I'm so sorry honey, I know it is scary and at times you feel like you might be overreacting...but rest assured you are not and we pay our good doctors to be there for us when we need them, and even when we don't :) I'm glad everything checked out ok and you got a Day with your 2 guys :) even if it was in L&D :) Hang in there honey and I'll pray that the contractions calm down for you...he'll be here soon!!!
